Some colleges offer flight training as part of the degree program. It takes 2 to 4 years to get trained and receive an AS or BS degree with pilot credentials. Most flight schools are not associated with colleges and do not offer anything other than flight training. An “accelerated” flight training school takes about a year to earn your CPL

Learning to become a pilot does not involve a degree. Once you’ve completed your training, you receive one or more government certifications (e.g., a pilot’s license) that allow you to fly legally for your own purposes or as a commercial pilot.

A college degree can help you to get a job as a pilot in borderline cases, but experience and certifications are what airlines look at most. If you elect to get a college degree, any degree will do; it does not have to be aviation-related, and in fact a college degree in a different subject may help you to find another job if the pilot job doesn’t work out (if you fail the medical, or if you can’t find anyone who will hire you).
